HARWINTON, EAST 1732 LOCATION OF THE FIRST 25 HOMELOTS DRAWN BY THE PROPRIETORS HOLDING SHARES TO THE GRANTED PROPERTY Voted by the Subscribers December 27, 1732, pursuant to the Report. Surveyed and perfected by the committee, Samuel Catling, Daniel Messenger, Zachariah Seymour.
This half Township was originally granted to 40 Hartford taxpayers called the Original Proprietors whose shares were given, inherited and bought by the 25 men who comprised the subscribers. Four men were not satisfied with the locations of their lots and were allowed to chose new ones. Daniel Hinsdale and brother Amos relocated across the highway from Daniel's original lot. Isaac Butler chose the lot south of Cyprian Websters 1-10. Hezekiah Wyllys owned Farmington property near the Harwinton border and chose southeast of Samuel Messenger. His original lot (1-23) was later granted to the first minister. Most of these lots were within one half mile of the present Burlington Road (Route 4) then nothing more than a horse path.
