I always thought the published Hartford Original Proprietors, listed as the Original Proprietors of Harwinton, owned Grants to that town exclusively. After finding this deed my interpretation leads me to believe they each held grants to the 3 1/2 townships Granted to Hartford Proprietors by the Legislature.

Hatch grant to the Western Lands From Josiah Walker of Litchfield

To all people to whom these presents shall come Greeting. Know yee that I Josiah Walker of Litchfield in the county of Hartford and colony of Connecticut in the province of New England for the consideration of the sum of one hundred pounds current money received to my full satisfaction of Nathaniel Hatch of Guilford in the county of New Haven and colony aforesaid have given and granted and by these presents do give, grant, bargain, and sell and confirm unto the said Nathaniel Hatch his heirs and assigns forever. Two certain rights of land lying in common and undivided within three certain townships and a half township which belong to the proprietors of Hartford within that large tract of land commonly called the Western Lands. The one of which rights being the right lately belonging to Thomas Spencer of Hartford which is eighty four pounds in the list by which said townships are to be divided. The other being the right originally belonging to William Warren of Hartford which is sixty pounds in the said list and was by him conveyed to the said Spencer and both of said rights by ye said Spencer to me as by their several deeds may appear both said rights containing about four hundred & twenty acres be it the same more or less to have and to hold the abovegranted and bargained premises with their appurtenances and reversions unto him the said Nathaniel Hatch his heirs and assigns forever to his and their own proper use and behoof and also I the said Josiah Walker do for myself and my heirs covenant with the said Nathaniel Hatch his heirs and assigns that at and until the ensealing of these presents I am seized of the premises as a good and indefeasible estate in fee simple and have good right to bargain and & sell the same in manner and form as is above written and that ye same is free of all encumbrances whatsoever. In Witness thereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this first day of July in the fifth year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord George the 2nd of great Britain King.

Nathaniel Hatch lived in Harwinton across from today's Harwinton Volunteer Fire Dept. for less than ten years before selling his property to Aaron Cooke IV. He moved to New York in the early 1740s.
